Teva Sandals!

Looking for a pair of shoes that does NOT fall off your feet and float down the darn river? A few years ago, if you said yes then I would have said "Crikey, so am I." Fortunately, a few years ago, my aunt bought me these cool Tevas.
Right now I have four stitches in my left big toe as you can see in the picture. I slipped on a piece of glass at a YOGA RETREAT!! It was the kind of place you would never suspect that some dunce would throw their piece of glass on the lawn. But the cool thing is I can still put on Tevas.(P.S. I am growing Tomato plants!!!!!!!!)

Homeschooling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! by Sam

Allo pepolle!!!!!!!!! WE'RE HOMESCHOOLING! Yes,I said it, HOMESCHOOLING. Victory! MWAHAHAHA!!! With the help of a few websites such as Math Playground
we have succeded in reaching the British syllabus. We have also learned alot by going to Brasso Seco (A place hidden in the northern range) by looking at things such as leeches, ants, razor grass, ti marie, moss, ferns, spit and leaves under a microscope.

Here are two more of the websites we used.
Multiplication.com
and
BBC school

The cool thing about homeschooling is that you don't have to strain your fingers writing with a pencil.
We do most of our writing on the computer.

mapepire

Here in Trinidad we have two species of mapepire: the mapepire balsain and mapepire zanana. The scientific name for mapepire zanana is Lachesis muta muta. This fascinating species of snake is the world's largest pit viper and is the most dangerous snake in the Caribbean/South American region. This snake can grow to 12 ft. You should take caution arround this snake as it can easily kill a human. The scientific name for mapepire balsain is Bothrops atrops. This snake is more common, smaller , and its venom is less potent then that of the zanana ( thank god ) but will still kill you without medical asistance. If you are alone in the forest you should carry a snake bite kit .

Of all animals in the forest I fear the mapepire the most.

Macajuel River Hike

Yesterday I went on a hike to a place called macajuel pool. To get there you must swim and hike down the madamas river through some incredible gorges, where the water is so deep that you cannot swim down to touch the river bed . Above is a picture of of one of the people who was on the hike with me swimming down a gorge with his bag.

We drove in along the road as far as we could before starting to walk. on the way ,I took this picture of a shinny we saw many of these on the hike but I did not take photographs of the others.
After that we saw a mapepire in the path .It was about 3 feet . I also got several photographs of it. after a long time hiking we finally reached macajuel pool. We had to jump off a waterfall to get there. If you wish to go get in touch with Carl Fitzjames at the Brasso Seco Paria Site

La Bas

La Bas
There are HORRIBLY REVOLTING ODOURS and DEATHLY KILLER SMELLS from garbage, mud and muck that people pull up from smelly old wells. P.U, you hold your nose but the aroma still gets in,and makes you smell like a horribly disgusting warehouse bin
Well, smells and odours, aromas and garbage on the grass, they're disgusting, but nothing beats the stench of the La Bas.

man-o-war!

I've just come back from Mayaro, where I have been stung by a rather rude Portuguese man-o-war that has temporarily ruined my leg.

"Anyone unfamiliar with the biology of the venomous Portuguese man-of-war would likely mistake it for a jellyfish. Not only is it not a jellyfish, it's not even an "it," but a "they." The Portuguese man-of-war is a siphonophore, an animal made up of a colony of organisms working together." says National Geographic Kids. I discovered this when I captured a live man-o-war and placed it in a bucket of sea water. The man-o-war put it's tentacles down, felt the bottom of the bucket, pulled them up, flexed it's sail to let the wind catch it and dropped it's tentacles again to test the depth of the water. This would mean that the man-o-war was showing intelligence and as a siphonophore, without a brain should not be able to do this. I also wonder how the many cells are communicating with each other. A short while later, there was nothing in the bucket. The man-o-war seemed to have dissolved and changed into purple goop! it seems that under stress the man-o-war disintegrates.
